That IS Bananas!

Did You Ever Hear of the Snicker’s Diet?

Do you enjoy eating  bananas on a regular basis? After all, it’s a good source of potassium and a healthy snack, right?  And how about yogurt?  Do you enjoy indulging in a variety of non-Greek yogurt as another healthy snack option?   I mean, WHY NOT?  It’s got to be better than eating a Snickers, right?

Lean in for answers and get ready to have your little pants blessed as I provide more context for the previous blog on weighing versus measuring food.

When beginning a weight loss plan, people often stock up on bananas and yogurt for healthy snack options that take the edge off dieting detoxification.  A typical daily intake may include a banana in the AM and a yogurt delight in the late afternoon (when you hit the 2:00 wall).  These are not the ONLY foods consumed for the day, but they are on the list.

Is this your story?  Do you find yourself eating a banana and yogurt for snacks throughout the day? If so, have you ever got to the end of the week after eating what seemed like healthy choices, only to discover you didn’t even lose one pound?  The disappointment leaves you fretting and cussing because you could’ve responded to the Thursday afternoon whisper of the Snickers!

Eating healthy. No success on the scale.  Let’s do some sleuthing to see what could’ve happened.  To keep it simple, let’s focus on the banana and yogurt options to see what they bring to the table.

The 4.2-ounce banana provides a lot of potassium for sure—258 mgs. This size banana also contains 16.5 grams of carbs and almost 9 grams of sugar.  Not necessarily bad if you aren’t going to consume any other sugar throughout the day.

Now look at a common, delightful dessert yogurt.

One of my favorite DESSERT yogurts!

This non-Greek yogurt contains 27 carbs AND 20 grams of sugar!!!!  AND you are not even full because you didn’t eat a healthy fat with it.  Yikes!  20 grams of sugar for a “healthy” snack option… What kind of game is this?!!  😊

Now add the two together:

This IS bananas, right (see what I did?), especially when you should stay under 35 grams of sugar per day while trying to lose weight! I guess you should’ve had the Snicker’s bar!  😊   Shoot, the banana and yogurt combo surpass the Snickers Bar in sugar and carbs! The potential to feel satiated  is more likely with the snicker’s bar  due to its “healthy” fat content.

Now of course I am not seriously suggesting you include Snickers into your weight loss meal plan.  I just want you to have another tangible example of why it pays to track your meals!  When you know what you need to know, it makes it easier to do what you need to do to be successful.  This  reduces the willy-nilly factor!

Good news!  The soon to be released Master Course, The WOWW!Factor Weight Loss Experience, provides education to help you plan your daily nutrition in a way that yields results AND reduces feelings of deprivation.  You will learn how and when to incorporate that food item you just cannot seem to live without!  Take action and sign up for the wait list today!

For now, I just want you to be mindful of what you eat. As I often say, willy-nilly is not a good look for us!  😊  And don’t beat yourself up for your food choices;  own them!  If they aren’t working and you desire something different, then simply make different choices.
